Secret Mission: The Forgotten Island

By cecelia
03/19/2010
Spring has sprung in Northern California. Almond and fruit trees are in bloom and the temperature is rising. So nice! Of course with spring comes the dreaded daylight savings. Try as I might I have never learned to live with it. I just put up with it till fall. Any way the north wind has come up today with a vengeance so it is a good day to play a new game. This game has a ho-hum little story so I am just going to skip it and get right to the game.

It is your basic Hidden Object Game. It has good graphics and I had a lot of fun playing it. There is a lot of going back and forth between locations and lots of chores to complete. Also there are a lot of mini puzzles to solve. I had a lot of trouble with some of these puzzles. They give very little directions and frankly I just could not figure some of them out. But not to worry. The old faithful skip button is there for your convenience! I forgot to mention that you have a choice of easy or hard when you begin the game. There is not too much difference in the two really. You get a few more hints and the hint meter fills up faster on the easy level.

I enjoyed playing this game and I am going to go back and see if I can solve some of those pesky puzzles. There is an option in the Menu of this game that allows you to do just that!

Annie's Millions

By morgan
03/12/2010
SO the tutor came on Tuesday and we discussed the last three chapters. Well, two of the three, I never finished the third chapter. I loved discussing the chapters with him because he has such a great voice, but I would have rather discussed other things with him. You know, like what movie he wants to take me to see this weekend, what his favorite songs are, does he want an indoor or out outdoor wedding! OMG! I guess I’m getting a little ahead of myself.

I'm so bad, I took another break from my reading (the third chapter again, well for the first time) to play another game. Don't worry thought, again, like the last game I played it's a money game. It’s great practical experience for my economics class since I have no real money!

It’s called Annie's Millions and it's a lot of fun. I'm playing as Annie. I come home to find a man waiting at my apartment. Oooh, I wonder if he's a tutor LOL. Anyway, a man is waiting there with a debit card with $1Million dollars on it! My Uncle Dave has challenged my two cousins and I to spend a million dollars faster and smarter than the others. Oh Uncle Dave, why can't you be real?!?! The winner gets Uncle Dave’s riches when he passes on.

The game is so much fun. It's a hidden object game and there are mini-games too. Hidden object games never have mini-games. You can play the mini-games to get extra hints. The mini-games are like old Price is Right games. There's Price Builder, where you have three numbers and you have to pick two of the three to form the price of the item. Sort Items, you have to place the four items by price low to high. Price Match, there are 3 items and you have to put the correct price next to them. And last but not least, Price Guess. You have to guess the price of the item and you are told higher or lower.

I can’t stop thinking of that old 80’s movie Brewster’s Millions while I’m playing. It’s the same premise only I’m not Richard Prior although sometime I think voting for "none of the above" is the way to go.

There’s a believable story in the game and I really do not like my in-game cousin! I will play this game all day just to make sure I beat her. That’s my money!!! I’m getting a little carried away again. Maybe I should get back to my reading…nah! I’ve been playing for 20 minutes and I’ve already spent $5400. That’s pretty good, but I think I could do that in 20 seconds in real life; student loans and a day at the spa. I’m going to go outside and enjoy the first nice day we’ve had in a while. Check out the game and let me know what you think.

Awakenings: The Dreamless Castle Cheats and Walkthrough

By anne
03/09/2010
Here is the guide I promised you, Awakenings: The Dreamless Castle. What can I say about this game? Wow! It had great graphics, absolutely beautiful, a storyline that kept me interested the entire way through, and it left me wanting more! I thoroughly enjoyed this game more than I have the past few. It was just fantastic and I hope we see more like it, or a sequel!

I'm not sure what I'll do for my next guide. I am eyeing up a few games to write guides for over spring break. I'm broke, so I'm staying on campus for spring break. Unfortunately, so is my room mate! I tried to loan her some more colorful clothes, but she just snarled at me, yes she actually snarled! Once she finally got the hint that I did not need help writing my guides, she started sitting on her side of the room, blaring music through her headphones and writing or drawing - I don't really want to know, in a notebook. Thankfully, term is over in just a few more months and I can head back home. Of course, there is also Easter vacation and I will be going home for that. Meanwhile, I struggle to deal with an ever depressing roommate and juggle my studies. Wish me luck! Thankfully, she doesn't read my blogs, or so I hope!

Love Story Letters from the Past Review

By morgan
03/09/2010
So…he still doesn’t know, but I’m still dreaming about my Econ “tutor”…oh, sorry, I’m back now. Anyway, since I’m such a romantic, when I saw the game Love Story: Letters from the Past, I had to check it out.

Mary is an elderly woman who has just lost her husband. After the funeral, back at the house, you are given instructions to check the mailbox. The mailbox is sparkling, but when you click on it, you’re told that it’s stuck, and that you should find something which with to open it. To do so, you have a list of items to find; if you get stuck there’s a hint available, but then once you select the hint once, you have to wait for the locket to fill up again. You cannot really mess up while playing; the game directs you exactly what to do and when!
Finally you open the mailbox, and waiting for you is a package! Everyone loves a package, right?! Once you figure out that you need to take it inside to open it, you again have a list of items to find in the room before you can proceed. If you’re good at finding hidden items in a picture, like me, this mini-game part of the game is a breeze!

Little by little, the story unfolds to present you with letters from your long-lost love. Ahh how romantic! As you continue, the game directs you to find memory objects; these trigger little memory flashes of your relationship. It seems somewhat mysterious though, since supposedly your long lost love was killed in a war and you never heard from him again…

Now the point of view changes, and you see John, trapped in a cell in some POW camp. More search and find kinds of games, and then a maze!

This game is very challenging, but totally addicting. I cannot wait to get John and Mary back together…awww, how romantic! Speaking of romance, the tutor just called and he’s on his way, and I’m supposed to be ready to discuss three chapters of the book! Hrm…maybe I can convince him that there’s something more fun than discussing Economics… how romantic! ;)

Sarah Maribu and the Lost World Cheats and Walkthrough

By anne
02/28/2010
I finished Sarah Maribu and the Lost World already! The game has great graphics, but pretty basic game-play. It's a hidden object game, with lots of hidden objects that will vary for everyone. Then there are you inventory items that you need to interact with something else in the game. Usually, this means opening a door, gate, cage, etc. The puzzles weren't overly hard and most you could skip. Finding the items could be tough at times, but the hardest part sometimes was figuring out where to use your inventory objects. Don't worry, they are all outlined for you! The plot was very weak but the game was still enjoyable. I mean, come on, what parents are going to let their daughter and her boyfriend run off with their crazy uncle to an unknown island to explore it... alone?! Not mine! I mean, if I had a boyfriend. Anyway, I do recommend this game.

My roommate gets more annoying by the minute. First we had the black... everything! Clothes, nails, lipstick, etc. Then the lollipop sucking, hovering over my shoulder, trying to "help", and the extremely loud music that comes blasting through her headphones, I'm surprised she's not deaf! She's also very messy. Now mind you, I'm not perfect, but I like a small room such as a dorm room to be tidy otherwise it's like living in a barn. And I know all about barns! I finally had to take duct tape, handy for everything right, and tape a line down the middle of the room. Her side, my side. This concept only just took place very recently so I'll update you next time on how that is going.

Next up will be Awakening: The Dreamless Castle. So keep your eyes peeled! My cousins said the NE winter is horrible, so all you snow bunnies, stay warm and stay safe. Happy gaming!

Natalie Brooks Mystery at Hillcrest High Cheats and Walkthrough

By anne
02/28/2010
Hey gamers! I am on a mission this month. To bring you a new guide every week! Let's see how I do.

The guide I bring you today is Natalie Brooks: Mystery at Hillcrest High (aka Natalie Brooks 3). Now, it's only 3/4 finished because there is a major bug in the game that often causes players to freeze around Chapter 6 or 7 and cannot go further. I am told by Big Fish Games that this is a known problem and that the developers of the game (not Big Fish Games) is working on it. At which time it is solved, the guide will be finished.

Up until I got totally stuck and cannot go further, I was really enjoying the game I cannot wait to finish it. The storyline, graphics, game play, are all top notch. There are a few translation errors, but it doesn't take away from the game. What does take away from the game is that darn bug! It does not happen to everyone, I have talked to people who have played the game all the way through just fine, but I have also talked to people who have the same problem I did.

Now as for Natalie, I really think she needs to re-think her wardrobe. Three games in and she is still wearing the same clothes! Sort of like my new roommate! I haven't updated you on that have I. Well, she's a little different and very annoying. I have no idea how I will study with her around. I actually have to leave the comfort and coziness of my dorm room and go to the library to study. Anyway, back to her clothes. She only believes in one color, black. Black pants, black shirts, black shoes, black socks, probably black underwear but I didn't ask or look! Black nails, black eyeshadow, even black lipstick. It's crazy! Where I grew up, black was worn on cowboys in the form a hat and yes, they were the good guys. Sorry, Roy Rogers, even the good guys wear black these days! Well, I hear her coming up the hall, I better post this blog before she decides to watch what I'm doing over my shoulder - yes, very annoying!

Until next week - take care and you North Easterner's, stay warm in that big winter storm you got!

Diner Dash 5 Review

By morgan
02/27/2010
The “tutor” had to cancel today, and although I promised him I’d study… When I saw Diner Dash 5: Boom Collector’s Edition come out, I decided to give the restaurant biz a try! After all, that’s Economics too, right?

People say being a server is tough, but I can’t believe it would be that difficult… seat the customers, take their orders, serve the food, pick up the tips, and clean up the tables… really…how hard can that be?

Well, when it starts pouring on your outdoor café and more people are showing up, and you don’t have enough tables to seat them, and your café is in the process of being built while you’re running the day-to-day business… it’s much more difficult than I ever imagined! But, oh so much fun!

The game starts out with a little story video— somebody vandalizes the sign above the diner that says “Fat-Free Breakfast” so that it reads “Free Breakfast”… Flo and her chef, Cookie, arrive and see the issue shortly before the crazy rush of people all pile into the diner at once!

Well, the diner just cannot handle the rush, and it explodes! So now, in comes Mr. Big, think the villain on the train tracks; all that is missing is the twirly moustache! Mr. Big threatens to take over the land that Flo’s Diner was on… but helpful Hal, the construction worker who just cannot survive without Flo’s hash browns, saves the day and offers to rebuild the diner! So now, in the meantime, Flo must run her business as an outdoor café, dealing with rain, wind, earthquakes, and all sorts of different types of customers! Oh my!

It’s a time management scramble to get all the customers seated and served, and each type of customer has different likes and dislikes, seating requirements, levels of patience, and generosity (the businesswomen will tip great, IF you can make them happy, but the lawyers are almost impossible to please!) You can even earn extra points by “color matching”—which is matching the customer clothing color to the seat color!

All of the café activities are point, click, and drag on a colorful and fun interface that has poor Flo running all over the place. Good thing you can “buy” upgrades, such as faster running sneakers, as you gain more money at the café. Save up for the big-ticket items—umbrellas that open automatically when it starts raining (so you don’t have to think about it—so helpful!), and a new countertop that somehow helps Cookie prepare the food faster!

At the end of each “day” of business, Hal also lets you do some customization work on your new diner—pretty neat! I picked stars on my sidewalk… after all, my café will eventually draw Hollywood royalty… no really… I already had some celebrities show up! And they tipped well too!

The colors are bright and vivid, and the game just keeps getting better “day” after “day”! I have to tell the tutor that I totally get the economics of the restaurant biz now!

The Clumsy's Butterfly Effect Cheats and Walkthrough

By anne
02/21/2010
I finally finished The Clumsy's: Butterfly Effect. This the second game in this fun series. It differs some from the first game, but not in a bad way. There are three new gadgets you can use and you get to travel through time putting back together inventions! The layout is much easier than the first game and they seem to have polished it up in that area. However, it's lacking some of the extra fun the first game had. This is pretty much a straight hidden object game. In fact there are 30 levels! That may not sound like a lot, but within each level, are anywhere from 4 to 6 hidden object areas to solve. Needless to say, this is a very long game! However, if you enjoyed the first one, then by all means, buy this one!

This game was not easy to finish. In fact I had planned to have it finished on Sunday, but alas, my roommate was driving me crazy! She has this annoying habit of standing behind me while sucking on a lollypop and pointing out objects over my shoulder. She is usually wrong too! So combine a constant slurping noise, mumble speak because the lollipop is still in her mouth when she talks, and someone poking and pointing. Add in the little black cloud that follows her everywhere and those infernal headphones that do not block out her music, if you call that music, and you have an extremely annoyed roommate. Namely, ME!

Well, as you can see I finally got through the guide, even with her "help." Now, I'm about to start a game called Sarah Maribu and the Lost World. Keep and eye out for it. After that, I will be working on Awakening: The Dreamless Castle. I hope to finish both this guides by the end of February, so keep your fingers crossed. Meanwhile, I have to figure away to get rid of my new roommate or reform her! Until next time, happy gaming!
